Parkinsons Disease Nurse Specialist Community Service

We in the Galway Parkinsons Disease Association (PDA) have established the recent development of Parkinsons Disease Nurse Specialist Community Services.  This service development has come about as a direct result of needs expressed to both the Galway branch of the PDA and our local Parkinsons Disease Nurse Specialist, by patients and their families’.  It is well known that, there are difficulties for some people accessing services.

The people who  use this service are socially isolated, medically too unwell to attend a PD clinic or unable to attend due to transport issues.  The referrals for people to be visited are from GP's, PD Nurse, Hospital Consultants and Speech and Language Therapists.
Galway Parkinsons  are delighted to be associated with this service and with Patrick Browne PD Nurse.  We along with our members have developed a great working relationship with the Neurology Department in UCHG and Patrick Browne PD Nurse.
The benefit of the Home Visit Service is that our members and people with PD can be seen in their own home and they do not have to worry about making the journey to UHG.  The PD members are seen on a regular basis  by Patrick Browne PD Nurse, it is a great source of comfort to  families knowing that there is such a good service.

The phone service offered by Patrick Browne PD Nurse in the Neurology Department at UCHG is great.  Our members and PD patients know that if they have a question no matter how big or small that they can phone and leave a message and it will be dealt with promptly.
